l bought the bike a few weeks ago as a project for the coming summer, but the exhaust is in a bad way and full of holes, would l need to get a fully custom exhaust or could one of these from ebay be fitted?

Yes, you can fit that to your exhaust or go to an exhaust shop and have them make one for you. The cheapest way is a straight pipe with a little lawnmower exhaust attached to the end.
