The 2001 Suzuki aerio began staying in high gear (it is an automatic). Since l rarely drive it, I've been putting it in low 1 and 2 to build up speed before putting it in drive. I am not sure if it is an electronic signal to the transmission problem or a major internal transmission repair that is needed. It is got about 60,000 miles on it. Probably rough mileage, since an irresponsible teenager drove the car until their parent took it away and gave it to me. If it is an expensive problem I will probably get rid of the car.

Its could be expensive, no external electronics involved. You either have a bad trans or the shift cable/linkage is out of adjustment/broke( much cheaper).
