does anyone feel like the mileage is bad with their xl-7? l have the '07 base model.

Most of the reviews I've read from customers say that the mileage is good. A lot depends on your driving habits and maintaining correct tire pressure. Be sure to clean-out the carry spaces like the ''trunk'' in order to eliminate extra weight.

Bad in what way? What are you comparing it to, a Honda Civic, other XL-7 is or mid-size SUV is in general? The XL-7 is an SUV rated around 16/22 so you probably are averaging 18 mpg as stated on http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm.
