Too many variables are required to determine an 'average',
however mine could actually approach 70 while going downhill with a tailwind.
Of course even that depends on the slope of the hill and the speed of the tailwind.
All l can tell you for sure is that, with the thing floored, l seldom had to worry about going over the speed limit.

We named him Harley, because when he grows up, he wants to be a motorcycle.

they are less tippy than an explorer.

and they go fast...

and when you tip a samurai it only takes 4 or five guys to right the little sucker and it often wo not be damaged much!

Put 150k miles on an '88 in 10 years. Bought new, pretty darn reliable vehicle only problems were a bad fuel pump & clogged catalytic converter & eventually a slight oil leak.

l ran slightly larger tires than stock (like 215 is instead of 205 is l think) & l could get to maybe 72-73 on flat ground. Sometimes struggled to get to 60 going up a very moderate hill.

On the highway, throttle position was completely to the floor nearly all the time. l did get pulled by a policeman once & laughed when he said l was doing 82 or something like that. l told him that car could not go that fast. He let me go.

Never once felt like l was going to tip this car over. Fun little car.

82mph down hill with a tail wind. If it is stock. Lifted and you drop down to 76mph unless you regear the transfercase. Then it will run like a raped ape!

From Banning Ca to Palm Springs is all down hill. l had my Zuk doing 93 MPH with the wind at my back! It had a Doug Thorley header w/2 inch cat back & 29 in BFG ATs. Tried for 100 just could not reach it. If the wind would have gusted from my side l would have took off like a BOX KITE!

Coming back from Palm Springs was another story. 55-60 MPH with the wind in my face.

SIDE NOTE: the Tracker is a Sidekick..not a Samurai. And as far as tipping...it the driver.not the Zuk. The Samurai was the same size as the CJ5, but because it was robbing Jeep of sales it was attacked & given a bad rep.

I've had my Zuk for 9 years. It has a heavily modified 1.3 engine with a 4:16 geared transfer case along with 33 inch tires & about 14 inches of lift. It will do about 65 on a good day even with all that lift & tire size. A head wind however will drop it down to 50 in a hurry.
A stock Sammy , & I've had one, will easily run 80 on the freeway unless there is a long slope or a headwind. You've got to realize that these vehicles were not built for anything that resembles speed!
