the company is japanese with products being built in many countries. l believe that GM has a controlling interest in them though.

The Suzuki company originated as the Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company in Tokyo, Japan. It later turned into a personal transportation company (they added little motors to bicycles, in a precursor to its motorcycle manufacturing.) After World War II, they made powered bicycles, then motorcycles, then cars & other motorized personal vehicles.

They r now a diversified company. Most of their manufacturing is still in Japan, but they do outsource products around the world. They also assemble products in plants around the world (making the country of origin question very complicated.)

GM does NOT have a controlling interest. They do have a partnership & joint business ventures, & had enough of a share to seat a board member. However, the Suzuki family has always retained enough shares to prevent control by outsiders. GM may have sold significant shares recently to raise money (due to the economic downturn.)
