My Suzuki gs500 1990 cdi ignition box keeps breaking, I am not sure if l just got a bad replacement or what, but the same wire blew out, so I am doubting it.Can a bad coil blow out a ignition box?
Ok, so l check out the ignition box and it gives me a voltage when the bike isnt started but turned on, the second l start it, the white wire no longer gets voltage which is the wire to the left ignition coil, which is why its not sparking.So, my question now is, if the signal generator (pulse generator) on the bottom right side of the enigne is not working properly, would that cause the problem?If so, then if l just replace that, then I will be able to get back on and riding really soon.The coil does work when l switch it to the other side, because l get a spark when l hook it up to the other side, so the plug and coil is still working, which is why I am thinking that its the signal generator and is also what is causing the draining of the battery and giving it charging problems.Any insight on this??THANK YOU for thealready and thank you in advance for the new ones!

check the current draw on said wire with manifactures spec, if its meling down the wire or shorting the module, theres probably sometihng wrong with the setup, get sa pro to check it out.

Sure it can, but most likely u have a ground problem. IF u do not have a very good volt meter & know how to use it, u might want to consider taking it to a shop.

IN the mean time, why not trace out ur electrical wiring.

Disconnect the battery cables, l prefer both to be disconnected because I've seen instances were they were installed backwards & the bike was hot when it should have been dead.

Check each spark plug wire, battery cable & electric wire for breaks, corrosion, splits, worn, or rubbed insulation. Replace if necessary. All it would take is the cable to be grounding out against the wrong part & u will fry the box.

Pull every fuse. Carefully inspect them for problems. Are there any fuses that r over-rated for their lines? Has a larger fuse been put in place of a smaller fuse, 30 amp on a 15 amp line? This would cause an over-voltage/over-amperage problem that could also cause or be associated with the box blowing. IF the bike has circuit breakers, check them too.

If any accessories have been installed, a battery minder, radar detector, auxillary lighting, etc. . . u need to check them too. A faulty or poorly grounded neon ballast can wreak havoc on ur electrical system.

IN any case, take the coil off & have it tested at a local shop.

The last time l saw this problem though, it turned out to be a bad kill switch.

OH, keep this in mind:

IF u can get the bike to start, start it up in the dark at night & look for the tell tale blue spark of an arc from ur sparkplug wires & other wiring. DO THIS IN THE DARK will really save u when u can not find the problem.
