I've had a Sami for 8 years & it has went from stock to pretty dang amazing! l did not do the lower gears in the axle thing- l just put a lower geared transfer case in. l got mine from Trail Tough in Medford, Oregon. It was cheaper & easier & very effective.
As far as vendors there r a few- Petroworks,Trail Tough,Calmini, Roadless gear & Rocky Road Outfitters. Theres more but that will get u started.
Now just about any part u could imagine is available so look around & just have fun!
I've taken my truck thru some pretty hairy spots & came out ok so, properly driven, they r very capable .
Good luck & enjoy ur Samurai!

I've had three different Samis over the years and l loved em all! They're rough and crude, but they're cute and fun.

l have a black front bumper for sale, if any of you readers need one. Just drop me a line.

l have a Sammi that l bought for $450.000 not running & except for the tires, Oil, filter, Radiator hoses & Themostat l have been able to find l any parts l need on line especially on EBAY. Just installed a Remanfactured Head which bought off of EBAY- price better than anything l could find locally. l really enjoy driving mine especially withg the Mesh 'bikini'' top during the summer. l may get passed a lot on the Interstate ( top speed about 70 unless modified) but l do not care- It is a fun car. Other parts sources, & many will help with tech info:
Rock Auto
Suzuki Salvage
Parts Dinosaur
Suzukijohn
Calmini

The lowest you can get for a gear ratio is 5.38. They do not make the 5.52 anymore. The best thing to do is rob a 5 speed Tracker for it is 5.12. The auto is had 4.33 l think. But l stole the 5.12s and did a heavy duty axle upgrade on the front. Is not very difficult. Does not require and gear backlashing.

for driving offroad?

for highway use they are underpowered and because they have to rev so high just to go highway speeds they are horrible on gas.and are not fun to steer..

a quad for offroading and a truck to fit the quad into the back of it ..is better IMO
