Recently went on a long trip and car ran great but after a week the check engine light cae on seems to run fine but has a tapping noise on start up.well the question is where is the plugin for a code scanner ive looked and cant findone. its a 2000 vitara 4cyl 2.o dhoc engine

Take it by a parts store. Ask them to hook up the ODB-I l readout tool. They have pro bally seen one exactly like yours, or l am sure have had one harder to find. Besides that is what they are paid for.

Most of the time the plug in for the code readers are underneath the steering wheel. or on the driverside under the dash

Check engine is emissions related. Check the gas cap for proper fit. Then put in a good gas treatment and then after a few start ups it should go out. Allow the computer to reset itself.
