All timing ''Chains'' are lubricated by the engine oil as they are in the engine already and oil flows over them as the engine runs. ''Timing Belts'' on the other hand are simply behind the plastic or metal covers and need no lubrication as they are a rubber belt the same as a fan belt, only larger and with teeth.

If you truly have a timing chain and not a belt, then the lubrication is the engine oil. Timing belts do not need lubrication, just replacement every 90k miles.

l own a repair shop, and yes it does get oiled from the oil in the oil pan,,they get the run off oil from the upper part of the engine when the engine is running, this provides a lot of oil for the chain and gears in it,,good luck l hope this help,s,,,have a good x-mas,
